Prominent figures in the Hollister community were escorted to the lockup Dec. 5. They were taken by arresting officers – volunteers at Night Out Limousine – in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to a mock jail sponsored by Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister. These jailbirds were accused of a having a big heart and agreed to raise $13,000 bail for MDA to get out of jail.

City of Hollister Mayor Brad Pike presided as a celebrity judge for the event. Through the generous donations to bail out Hollister participants, the event was able to raise more than $13,000 for MDA families in the South Bay. Other supporters included companies throughout the city that donated to the event such as Ace Hardware (prizes), AT&T (cell phones) and Kragen Auto Parts (prizes). It is with the help and support of people in the community that MDA had such success.

Every $600 raised by the jailbirds will send a child to summer camp. The annual week-long summer camp is designed for children living with neuromuscular disease to engage in exciting activities, make new friendships and increase self-confidence. Funds will also be used to support a comprehensive patient service program, which includes medical equipment, clinics, support groups and research for MDA clients diagnosed with one of the 43 neuromuscular diseases MDA covers.
