CALLER 1: I have a big gripe with you people. Those kids ran track Saturday and they never even got in the paper. They run in the cold, rain, and you guys never … you give everybody else the damn country but them.
GREEN PHONE: Caller 1, all this nasty weather sure has you in a foul mood. We’re not quite sure where your criticism is coming from because we’ve been out in our ski jackets covering all three of the ‘Balers’ Tri-County Athletic League meets. Check out the last few Fridays’ sports sections for full coverage, including photos. San Benito participates in the West Valley Relays today (Saturday). If you pick up next Tuesday’s newspaper, you’ll get a full account of that action.
CALLER 2: Hi, I was just calling about the Wednesday, March 15 article. It was Ohlone College and Gavilan Rams baseball. And in the photo description, it says “Justin Baker rips an Ohlone offering during last Thursday’s home game.” That is actually Erfain Ruiz, No. 22. Again, it’s Efrain Ruiz, No. 22, not Justin Baker.
GREEN PHONE: Caller 2, thanks for the correction. Upon further review of the Gavilan baseball roster provided to the Free Lance, we now see that both Baker and Ruiz are listed as No. 22. That’s where the mistake stemmed from. We apologize for the error and we will get it right in the future.
While we strive for 100 percent accuracy – including reporting the facts and correctly identifying athletes and coaches – perfection is quite a lofty goal. Mistakes and oversights will unfortunately occur on our end, but we also depend heavily on information provided to us by athletic organizations – and we count on its accuracy, too.
Heck, if you know what Baker’s correct number is, feel free to make another call to the Green Phone.
