With winter break almost over, the San Benito High and Anzar High sports teams are revving up to begin their respective league seasons. The San Benito boys basketball team opens up Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division play at North Monterey County on Jan. 6 at 7 p.m.
The Haybalers girls soccer team also starts league action on the same day at Gilroy for a 5:45 p.m. match start time. The wrestling team competes in the Pirate Invitational tournament in Pittsburg on Saturday before opening up league at home against Palma on Jan. 7 at 7 p.m.
The girls basketball squad starts the MBL slate by hosting defending league champion North Salinas on Jan. 5 at 7 p.m., while the boys soccer squad host Pajaro Valley on the same day at 3:30 p.m. Anzar’s boys basketball team begins Mission Trail Coastal League play against Pacific Collegiate School on Jan. 6 at 7 p.m., while the school’s girls soccer team plays at PCS on the same day at 3:30 p.m.
