What was ‘Embarrassed’ Mayor Driving at the Rally?
What was ‘Embarrassed’ Mayor Driving at the Rally?
Editor,
Let me get this straight …
If Mr. Mayor was so “embarrassed,” upset and distraught by the number of law enforcement personnel at the 2006 “Unofficial” Rally, why was it that he drove around each day in his marked San Benito County Marshal car? If he was so “embarrassed” by the number of cops on the streets (as noted in a recent newspaper article), why was he driving around so visible in his marked police car? Were there that many subpoenas to serve in the downtown area during the weekend of the rally? Aren’t we as area residents the ones paying for the gas in this official vehicle? If he is so bothered by everything, can he as a law enforcement official explain his actions and identify the people riding along with him? The last I knew, if they were prisoners they should have been in the back seat.
With all the complaining about the cops at the event let’s look at the published facts … no fatalities, no accidents and no beatings or stabbings – except for the unrelated gang initiation which was initially witnessed and handled by some of the law enforcement personnel present for the rally.

Condor Issue Being Used by Gun-Control Organization
Editor,
I think your readers deserve to have all the facts about the issue of condors and lead poisoning. The July 14 article by Danielle Smith mentions the involvement of Physicians for Social Responsibility in this issue. What she does not tell us is that this is a leading gun control organization. Readers who would like more information about this organization can find their Web site at www.psr.org. Clearly, Physicians for Social Responsibility wants a ban on all guns, and they are willing to grab any issue that lets them pursue that goal.

Gang Problem Should Get Attention Given to Rally
Editor,
Excuse me, but the Chief of Police needs a murder to realize that we have a gang problem? This has been here since we’ve moved to Hollister over 15 years ago. For whatever reason the city as a whole has denied it has a gang problem. The last couple of rallies there were all sorts of gang activity roaming among the crowds.
If law enforcement spent as much time concerned about gangs as they were about the rally we would have a very safe city. It’s time to deal with the constant year-round problems.
