Summer officially came to an end last weekend and fall is now upon us. Many leaves are already turning and the nights and mornings are really cooling off. It’s going to be Christmas before we know it!

The Bitterwater Lady Badgers started off their season in fine form last week as they played their first league volleyball game against Greenfield Middle School last Tuesday in King City. The girls won the game by winning their first two matches. The girls will play two games this week, both against Soledad. The first game will be played on Tuesday, at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds, the second game will be played in Soledad. For more information on any of their games, or for their schedule, contact Mr. Williams at the school.

The San Benito County Fair started their week of events with the Junior Rodeo last Saturday at Bolado Park. Many South County residents participated at the rodeo, some of those participating included: Ralph Rianda, Taylor Jo Hurley, Mattie Barrington, Katie Harris, Blane and Blair Strohn, Sierra Jo, Buddy and Brody Sans, Cheyenne Rey, Stephanie Caston. Jenna Lombardi and Garrett and Tucker Bourdett. They gave beautiful awards and it was a great day. Thanks to all those who helped put on this wonderful event.

On Sunday, the King City Riding Club hosted its final playday of the year. They had a great turnout as everyone was competing for some great awards. After the gymkhana, the riding club hosted a delicious, Steve Rianda-style BBQ. Whenever a Rianda is doing the cooking, you can count on delicious food! Thanks to the riding club for another great year and for some wonderful awards.

Last Saturday evening, Todd and I were treated to a special night as my dad’s company was celebrating its 25th anniversary. Todd and I were picked up by a limousine, and taken to a black tie dinner at the Pebble Beach Country Club for dinner and dancing. My dad knew we would never find the place so he graciously arranged for transportation for us. Besides Todd and me, my brother from Reno and his family enjoyed the limo ride, along with my sisters and their husbands. I also got to meet my new 8-month-old nephew and my 7-week-old great niece for the first time. It was a wonderful, quick family reunion that didn’t last long enough. Congratulations to my Dad on such a successful evening.

The King City Pop Warner Football team will be having a home game this weekend at the King City High School. The big squad will play around 11 a.m. with the smaller squad following. Be sure to come out to support the boys.

Don’t forget the San Benito County Fair opens this week as well. The fair begins on Thursday and goes through Sunday.

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, Oct. 3 and Wednesday, Oct. 4 as 2005 Christian Country Music Artist of the Year, Chunky Nelms from San Angelo, Texas will be the featured guest at Cowboy Church. He will be at the Salinas Cowboy Church at the Rodeo Grounds on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and at the King City Cowboy Church on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. This may be the last month for Cowboy Church in King City so be sure to come if you want to keep it going down here. For more information on either of these dates, contact Bonnie Stoeberl at 623-4074.
