Our first Red Phone caller of the day, a Hollister resident
interested in bringing more revenue into the county, asked the
Crimson Crusader if the Hollister City Council was
”
thinking about bringing the San Francisco Giants to
Hollister.
”
Our caller said a stadium would bring in more revenue and jobs
to the area. While aware of the San Francisco 49ers’ plans to more
to Santa Clara, the Crimson Crusader wasn’t aware that the Giants
had any plans to move from their stadium at AT
&
amp;T Park.
Our first Red Phone caller of the day, a Hollister resident interested in bringing more revenue into the county, asked the Crimson Crusader if the Hollister City Council was “thinking about bringing the San Francisco Giants to Hollister.” Our caller said a stadium would bring in more revenue and jobs to the area. While aware of the San Francisco 49ers’ plans to more to Santa Clara, the Crimson Crusader wasn’t aware that the Giants had any plans to move from their stadium at AT&T Park. Nonetheless, the Crimson Crusader made a call to City Councilman Doug Emerson to find out.
“That’s never crossed my mind,” he said. “That’s a little far out.”
Emerson said such an undertaking would be a huge project that would likely require major revisions to the city’s general plan and pointed out that the city doesn’t have the infrastructure, at least in terms of roads, to accommodate such a stadium. Add to that the fact that the Giants aren’t looking to move, and the answer to our caller’s question is: No, the City Council is not thinking about bringing the Giants to Hollister.
While bringing a Major League Baseball team to the area might be a little out of Hollister’s league, Emerson said the City Council has discussed creating a much smaller entertainment venue in the area.
Election anticipation
Our next Red Phone caller of the week, a District 4 resident, asked the Crimson Crusader when final election results for the race between incumbent San Benito County Supervisor Reb Monaco and challenger Tracie Cone would be available. The Crimson Crusader made a call over to County Clerk/Auditor/
Recorder John Hodges to find out.
Hodges said his office is still counting absentee ballots, but expects to have final numbers in by Monday.
Web Site Woes
Our final matter came from an avid Free Lance reader and frequent Red Phone caller. Our caller asked the Crimson Crusader if the Free Lance could update its Web site to reflect changes in staff and make sure all the extensions listed were current. The Crimson Crusader, always happy to help a Red Phone caller, took a crash course in HTML design and dedicated an otherwise lazy Saturday afternoon to fixing the problem. So fret not, dear caller, the Web site contacts should be updated posthaste.
