Critics of District Attorney John Sarsfield allege that he has
abused his power by prosecuting people who are politically opposed
to him. However, I believe that most people would agree that there
is no abuse of power where a prosecution is justified.

Critics of District Attorney John Sarsfield allege that he has abused his power by prosecuting people who are politically opposed to him. However, I believe that most people would agree that there is no abuse of power where a prosecution is justified.
In the case against Mr. Pekin, a criminal grand jury agreed that there was a basis for the charges against him and indicted him on five felony charges and one misdemeanor charge.
It seems to me that the efforts to discredit Mr. Sarsfield are a political distraction. The true issue is whether the District Attorney is doing the job that the people elected him to do. I voted for Mr. Sarsfield in November 2002 (along with the overwhelming majority of San Benito County voters) because I believed that his skills were superior to those of his opponent. I do not regret my decision.
I remember that during the election Mr. Sarsfield promised to crack down on gang activity. He has lived up to this promise, as evidenced by his recent prosecution of two reputed gang members who attacked a terminally ill man. The victim’s family apparently thanked the District Attorney’s office for its efforts in the case.
Mr. Sarsfield is trying to make Hollister a safer place. Let’s allow him to do his job.
