ANNIVERSARY
Boomgaardens celebrate 50 years
Dale and Cheryl Boomgaarden were married Jan. 13, 1964 in Pasco, Wash. and recently celebrated their 50th anniversary.
The longtime Gilroy residents grew up in the Tri-City area of eastern Washington state. They’ve been madly in love with one another since Cheryl was 15 years old and Dale was the ripe old age of 17. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Sunnyvale, where Dale was a mechanic for Purdue Plymouth and Cheryl worked for the phone company. While in Sunnyvale, they welcomed two daughters, Shauna in 1969 and Shannon in 1972. Dale’s career shifted to sales for Snap-On Tools and he needed to relocate his family.
In November 1976, they moved to their home on El Matador Drive and settled, once and for all, in Gilroy. A year later, Dale’s parents came to live with them as the elderly couple’s health failed. Cheryl particularly cared for her in-laws with devotion, love and incredible care until each of their passing.
In 1986, the couple purchased Gilroy Car Care and together they have run the successful business ever since. Initially located on Eigleberry Street, Gilroy Car Care is now in the building at 7747 Monterey. On weekends – and whenever they can get away – they love to drag race, a part of their love story since the beginning.
They are the proud grandparents of one granddaughter and four grandsons. Their family was pleased to recently celebrate their golden anniversary in Utah, where their daughters now live, with a family dinner and an open house with many transplanted Gilroy friends now living in Utah. The happy couple will enjoy an Alaskan cruise this summer to continue the celebration.
