top Class 6 gymnasts from Northern California on Saturday in
Fremont and advanced to the NCBGA Region 1 Championships in Phoenix
on April 1-4.

Only the top 18 of the 57 gymnasts in the Class 6 age 10 and over category received an invitation to the Region 1 Championships.

The Region 1 Championship brings together Class 1-6 gymnasts from California, Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii.

The top three event medalists from the regional championships (Class 1, 2, 3) may then qualify and compete at the 2004 Junior Olympic Nationals in San Diego on May 5-10. There are nine regions represented in the the USAG Junior Olympics.

In the individual competition of 16 gymnasts (ages 12+), Pedrazzi had scores of 7.6 on the floor (sixth place), 8.775 on the pommel (fifth place), 8.825 on the rings (fifth place), 8.9 on the vault, 9.0 on the parallel bars (fourth place) and 9.475 on the horizontal bar (fourth place).

Vanya Avilla, 11, narrowly missed qualifying for Regionals by one-tenth of a point, finishing with a 19th place in the all around (52.200). In the individual competition of 41 gymnasts (ages 10-11), Avilla had scores of 8.2 on the floor, 8.7 on the pommel, 8.725 on the rings, 9.1 on the vault (10th place), 8.6 on the parallel bars and an 8.875 on the horizontal bar.
