NCBGA Zone 1 Championships held Saturday in Santa Cruz.
Local Class 6/7 gymnasts excelled as they participated in the NCBGA Zone 1 Championships held Saturday in Santa Cruz. This meet was the qualifier for participating in the NCBGA State meet that will be held in Mountain View from March 20-21. Top achievers at the State meet will continue on to Region 1 Championships in Phoenix.

CLASS 6 (age 12+)

In a strong showing, Kurtis Pedrazzi placed first on the pommel (8.4), first on the vault (9.45), first on the horizontal bar (9.45), second on the floor exercise (7.75), second on the rings (8.7) and second on the parallel bars (8.8). His first place in the All Around (52.50) qualified him to compete in the NCBGA State meet later this month.

CLASS 6 (age 10-11)

Vanya Avilla placed first on the vault (9.35), fourth place on the floor exercise (8.25), fifth place on the rings (8.7), sixth place on the pommel (8.0), eighth place on the parallel bars (8.25) and ninth place on the horizontal bar (8.9). His sixth place in the All Around (51.45) also qualified him to compete in the NCBGA State meet.

CLASS 6 (age 7-8)

Gabriel Hatcher placed second on the vault (9.4), seventh on the horizontal bar (8.85), and tenth on the floor (8.25).

CLASS 7 (age 11+)

Darren Coates placed first on the pommel (9.2), first on the vault (8.9), second on the floor (8.45), second on the rings (9.0), second on the parallel bars (9.1) and second on the horizontal bar (8.4). His All Around score of 53.05 qualifies him to compete in the NCBGA State meet.

The boys train at USA Sport Connection in Hollister and are coached by Thomas Lopes.
