The Hollister 16U Heat travelling softball team finished second in the Los Altos tournament last weekend – their first tournament of the year.

The team went 1-1-1 on Saturday in pool play and went 2-1 on Sunday losing in the championship 5-4 in extra innings.

The two teams the Heat played on Saturday ended up being the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds of tournament. The Heat won their second game on Sunday 2-0 against the No. 1 seeded San Jose Sizzle.

Hollister had a strong defensive performance in the tournament and was led by Samantha Filice, Jessie Temperino and Andrea Balli.

Offensively, Jamie Huston, JT Temperino, Kassie Kearns and Nicole Burns came up with key hits.

“This is probably one of the best teams I have ever coached,” said manager Steve Grimsley. “All the girls get along great. It is like a family out on that field. We struggled a little offensively, but we will improve as the season goes along.”
