Friday.
Five schools came to San Benito High to tone their football skills during the first annual Team-First football camp on Friday.
San Benito players learned new skills and had the chance to test them out in competitions against other schools.
Of the six teams that participated (Alisal, Lincoln, Leland, Harbor and Los Lomas), Los Lomas was the team that set the bar for everyone to reach, said coach Chris Cameron.
“Of everyone there, they were the best football team,” Cameron said. “It was good for the players to measure themselves against better players because it shows what they have and what type of fire is in them. The whole purpose of the team camp is to work on things you need to improve on. We got a long ways to go, but we took a step in the right direction,”
Many of the players used the camp to try to accomplish a specific goal instead of soaking everything in at once, Cameron said.
Some of the players even got to do some extra bonding by letting other players spend the night at their houses.
“We got a lot of good feedback from other coaches who were there,” Cameron said. “Everyone came there for one reason – to get better. And I think everyone there walked away a little better.”
