Hollister – Teeing off the regular season league schedule on Monday, the San Benito High girls golf team took fourth place at the Tri-County Athletic League Tournament at Ridgemark Golf and Country Club.
Led by Haybaler Megan Smith, who shot a 9-over 45 on the par-36 Gabilan Course, the host squad combined to shoot a 201, which was tied with Notre Dame of Salinas for the third-best team score.
However, the Balers lost a tiebreaker with the Spirits and were relegated to fourth place.
Smith’s individual score was the seventh-best among all TCAL golfers.
The rest of the San Benito team’s scores were as follows: Ashly Cullumber, 50; Corryn Pacheco, 53; Erica Bardo, 53; Marissa Gutierrez, 54; and Danielle Shelton, 59.
Santa Catalina won the overall team title by shooting a 172. The Cougars were led by Courtney Mazzei, who shot a 39, good for first place among all individual golfers at the event.
Meanwhile, Gilroy High took fifth in the team competition, shooting a 207. Mustang junior Kristen Campos shot a 40, good for a second-place tie in the individual rankings.
The rest of the Gilroy team shot as follows: Carissa Filice, 50; Amy Kishimura, 58; Carla Navarro, 59; Amanda Bruce, 59; and Rowena Tabilas, 62.
Live Oak High finished seventh overall, shooting a 232, just ahead of last-place Monte Vista Christian.
On Tuesday, the Balers played a nine-hole (par-36) practice match against Live Oak at CordeValle in San Martin. The results are as follows:
San Benito: Corryn Pacheco, 50; Rachelle Barrientos, 55; Ashly Cullumber, 56; Megan Smith, 58; Johni Kiesewetter, 59; Nadine Gorena, 61. Total: 219. Live Oak total: 247.

Aptos – In non-league action on Monday, the Lady Balers lost to host Aptos 6-1. San Benito’s lone winner, No. 1 singles player Danelle Burke, won her match 6-1, 6-3.
