Baler roundup
The San Benito girls volleyball team has made quick work of its non-tournament opponents this season. The Haybalers haven’t loss a regular game yet in any match.
The Balers continued that trend Monday when they defeated Scotts Valley on the road, 25-16, 25-16, 25-14.
San Benito is 15-3 overall after losing in tournament play over the weekend in the championship game to Salinas.
Girls tennis
San Benito defeated Harbor 4-3 Monday and is now 4-2 overall . The contest came down to the No. 3 doubles match that substitutes Stacy Dain and foreign exchange student Anna Van Boom won 6-3, 6-3.
No. 1 singles Danielle Burke won 6-1, 6-1. No. 2 Jaimie Huston won 7-5, 6-2. Jessica Trudell lost 6-2, 6-1, and Fritzie Lacdao lost 7-6, 7-6.
The No. 1 doubles pair of Megan Kirk and Allysa Panecho won 6-2, 6-4, and the No.2 team of Tracy Hopkins and Kaitlyn O’keefe lost 7-6, 7-5.
Cross country
The San Benito boys cross country team finished fourth and the girls team finished fifth in Novato last weekend.
Leading the way for the boys team was Rigo Vasquez with a time of 16:15 for 11th place. Josh Vasuez took 19th (16:41), Eddie Trujillo took 21st (16:45), Alfredo Lopez placed 23rd (16:47), Albert Sandoval placed 29th (16:59) and Victor Hernandez finished 34th (17:18).
For the girls, Amanda Boyd led the way with a time of 20:31 to finish 16th overall. Jamilia Saqqa finished 31st (21:38), Alison Meyer finished 48th (21:50), Evie Betencourt finished 75th (23:10), Megan Garrett finished 90th (23:42) and LIlly Villagomez finished 98th (23:55).
Boys polo
In a game resceduled from Oct. 6 to Tuesday in Hollister, San Benito (7-3, 3-0) defeated Monterey 24-4.
The starters left in the second quarter. Zach Bainter had five goals and Lucas Zepeda had three. Blaine Curtice, Jamie Ashford, Dave and Joel Smith, Greg Valenzuela and James Schafer had two goals. Rory Bloch, Ben Dietrich, Josh Ward and Joe Flook had one. The next league game Oct. 12.
