Monterey – The San Benito girls golf team finished a perfect week on the links with a 204-196 victory over Santa Catalina at the par-36 Del Monte Golf Course Thursday.

“We were steady as a team and everyone is working together as a team and encouraging each other,” said Baler coach Mark Tinder. “This is a good victory for us because they expected to beat us. ”

The victory moves the Haybalers into a second-place tie with Santa Catalina and Notre, who the Balers face next week.

Girls tennis

Hollister – San Benito defeated Gilroy 5-2 Thursday to improve to 8-5 overall and 3-3 in league.

No. 1 singles Danielle Burke won 6-0, 6-0. Vanessa Martinez, who moved up to No. 2 singles, won 6-2, 7-5.

No. 3 Kaitlyn O’keefe won 6-2, 7-6, and No. 4 Christina Watson lost 6-7, 2-6.

In doubles, Megan Kirk and Alyssa Panacho lost 2-6, 6-0, (7-10).Michelle Rovella and Rebecca Williams won 3-6, 6-4 (10-4), and Fritzie Lacdao and Anna Van Boom won 7-5, 6-2.
