Dear Editor:

I read with a certain nostalgia about the retirement of John Kiesewetter.

Over the years I’ve known a lot of high school and college coaches. Like all people, there are good ones and mediocre ones. John was the best of the good ones.

When he first came here, his beautiful character was not to be suppressed, hidden or denied, and his friendly manner brought him many friends.

His cheerfulness and dedication were soon evident and he was always welcome in our home as a moral and morally correct mentor of our two sons.

He never seemed to tire of his desire to help young people and he developed many aspiring athletes at all levels.

This was unusual, because so often coaches are interested in only the potential stars, the headline-getters.

Not John. The beginner and slow-learners received the same encouragement as the winners.

My hat is off to John Kiesewetter. I have never met a finer, more wholesome person in my 70 years here in San Benito County.

May he and his family become ever closer in his happy retirement.

If I could speak for all the county, I would say, thank you, John. We were lucky to have you with us.
