The Hollister High boys tennis team hasn’t messed around with its first two non-league matches. The Balers have played two talented squads this week, losing by the same score each time.

On Thursday, the Balers dropped a 6-1 decision at Aptos. On Tuesday, it was a 6-1 decision at Pacific Grove.

“Pacific Grove was a very strong team,” said Baler head coach Allen Barker. “And Aptos had strong doubles teams.”

Freshman Cameron Barker, the coach’s son, came from behind to beat his opponent at No. 4 singles Thursday 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. Barker was down 4-1 in the second set.

At No. 1 singles, Glenn Morris won the first set 6-4 and was on the verge of winning the second set up 5-4. But lost the next three games to drop the second set 5-7. Morris lost the third set 1-6.

Michael Blake played at No. 2 and was downed 1-6, 3-6. Perrey Marks was defeated at No. 3 singles 1-6, 2-6.

In doubles, the Mariners sported a powerful three teams, defeating the Balers 0, 1; 0-1; and 0-0.

In the loss against the Breakers, the No. 3 doubles team of Daniel Moyer and Eric Warner were the only Baler victors.

Hollister continues non-league action this Tuesday against Soquel before opening up Tri-County Athletic League play next Thursday with Live Oak. Both matches are at Ridgemark Tennis Club.
