Hollister High junior varsity baseball head coach Chris Moore and his assistant Randy Villa will have their heads shaved at the team banquet following the Baler JVs’ 9-3 defeat of Palma at home Tuesday.

“This is our first league title since I’ve been here,” said Moore.

Though there no official leagues for junior varsity and freshman teams, the Balers had a 12-3 record against Tri-County Athletic League competition, which was better than any other team on the schedule.

Overall, Moore’s club finished 20-4, the first time he has achieved 20 wins.

“We had 18 players on the roster and no one ever complained about not playing,” he said. “This is the best group I ever had.”

The top hitters included Karson Klauer, who was 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI; Brent Ichien, who stayed hot with a 3-3 day, including a double and 2 RBI; Jason Allen, who belted a home run to left and had two hits with 2 RBI; Seth Hudson, who was 2-4; and Chris Etheridge, who chipped in a double.

Brian Rossi was the winning pitcher to finish the year unscathed at 8-0.

The JVs blanked Salinas 10-0 Monday behind the left arm of Breyon Canez.

Freshmen:Not to be outdone, the Hollister freshmen defeated Palma 5-4 to end the year 12-3 against T-CAL competition.

Drew Quintana tripled for the Balers, while James Macfarlane knocked in the winning run and pitched seven innings for the victory.
