growth initiative proponents and opponents.

As a participant in the recent consensus building workshop for San Benito County, I would like to commend the cooperation between growth initiative proponents and opponents.
At one point, Richard Saxe, one of the initiative proponents, acknowledged the need to include more people in the decision-making process. This recognition, that decisions should be made by a broad-based coalition of community members, is a start in planning the future of this county and represents a shift in thinking for many of us in the debate.
We, as a community, must come together and form a goal that meets our collective social, economical and ecological needs if we are to succeed in creating a sustainable future. This is no easy task, but I am confident that we are capable of taking our destiny into our own hands and out of the control of outside interests.
Through this process, we can create a county that thrives economically, preserves its natural resources and beauty, and carries on our rich, cultural heritage.
