Army Spec. Jacqueline D. Gray has graduated from basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood in Waynesville. Mo.

Gray is the daughter of Antha Darnell of Sanger, Texas, and James C. Gray of Hollister. She is a 1987 graduate of Vines High School in Plano, Texas, and is a 1999 graduate of Texas Womans University in Denton, Texas.

During training, Robles received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, rifle marksmanship, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid and Army history, core values and traditions.

Christopher S. Miser has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Ala.

Miser, a navigator, is the son of Stephen D. and Rebecca M. Miser of San Juan Bautista. Miser is a 1997 graduate of Monte Vista Christian High School and a 2001 graduate of The Masters College in Newhall, Calif.

At Officer Basic Training, cadets undergo a demanding 12-week course that trains them to be top quality Air Force officers through an extensive curriculum.

Marine Corps Pvt. Phillip R. Orabuena recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego.

Orabuena is the son of Ofelia and Frank R. Orabuena of Hollister and a 2002 graduate of San Andreas Continuation High School.

The Marine Corps Recruit Depot is designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally. Orabuena and fellow recruits ended the training phase with The Crucible, a 54-hour team evolution culminating in an emotional ceremony in which recruits are presented the Marine Corps emblem and addressed as marines for the first time.

Army Pvt. Yesenia J. Robles has graduated basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood in Waynesville, Mo.

Robles is the daughter of Maria P. Juarez of Hollister. She is a 2002 graduate of San Benito High School.

During training, Robles received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, rifle marksmanship, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid and Army history, core values and traditions.

Cadet Beau Brandon was commissioned as a second lieutenant when he graduated at the U.S. Air Force Academy on May 28 at Colorado Springs, Colo. Brandon is the son of Bill and Melissa Brandon and the grandson of Virginia McNown, all of Hollister. He is a 1999 graduate of San Benito High School.

Brandon graduated with althletic distinction from among 900 other graduating cadets and has ben accepted for pilot training in Biloxi, Miss. He is a third-generation Air Force Pilot, following in the steps of both grandfathers, Willard McNown and Bill Brandon, and father, Bill Brandon Jr. Brandon was commissioned by his grandfather Bill Brandon.
