Dear Editor:
On behalf of the local Democratic Party, I am inviting San Benito County residents to get involved in the political process. We pride ourselves on being the party of the people.
Our priorities include environmental protection, quality public education and affordable health care, to name just a few. But it is difficult to represent the people well if they are not participating in the process.
I understand that people have busy lives and important demands upon their time. But if we do not set aside some time to help shape the direction of our country, then we leave its future in the hands of those who will. For the sake of my children, I am not willing to take that risk. I hope there are others in this community who feel the same way.
The San Benito County Democratic Central Committee meets once a month, usually in one of the Gavilan classrooms at the Briggs Building. Our next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. on July 23 in classroom 6. The public is always welcome to join us, and we currently have some vacancies on the committee.
Please come, hear about the issues we are working on, and have input into the democratic process and the Democratic Party.
For more information, please look for our booth at the Hollister Street Festival on Aug. 16 or visit us online at www.hollinet.com/~sbcdemos, or call me at
638-1712.
Jeanie Wallace,
chairwoman of the San Benito County Democratic Central Committee
