Activists seeking to restrict petroleum extraction in San Benito County gathered at Indian Canyon on Sunday to hear guest speakers, University of Oregon professor Dr. Art Pearl and former Santa Cruz County Supervisor Gary Patton, talk in favor of San Benito Rising’s initiative.
The measure to regulate fracking, cyclic steam injection and hydrofluoric acidizing will go before voters in November. Participants from as far as Oregon and Los Angeles cast the election as part of a larger movement to empower communities through democratic processes as a counterbalance to the influence of large corporations.
