Motorists who use Union Road will want to keep a sharp eye out Tuesday when officials turn on the traffic signals at the San Benito Street and Southside Road intersections.

Following the morning commute Tuesday, San Benito County Public Works officials said they will turn on the recently installed traffic signals at the two intersections.

The lights were supposed to be activated earlier this month, but work on the lights was delayed because public works crews waited for Pacific Gas and Electric Company technicians to energize the lines so the lights could be tested and adjusted.

The traffic lights are being installed at Southside and Union roads and San Benito and Union in an effort to reduce serious traffic collisions.

The installation of those lights will be joined soon by traffic signals at Airline Highway and Union, and eventually lights at Fairview and Sunnyslope roads, according to public works officials at both the county and the City of Hollister.
