Although the Balers are coming off their top performance of the season last week against North County, they can’t afford to treat visiting Monterey lightly.

It won’t be just a final tuneup before the league portion of the schedule begins for the Balers (2-1-1).

Even though Monterey brings in a 1-3 record, the Toreadors have almost doubled the Balers offensive production (102-68). Those numbers are due in large part to Monterey’s 60-21 victory over Scotts Valley.

The Toreadors, with their new all-green uniforms, barely lost to Aptos 14-7 in the first game of the season.

Against Santa Cruz, Monterey put 35 points on the board but still wound up in the loss column.

They were cooled off a little last week with a 35-0 loss against Palma.

But the Balers defense has got it done this season.

The team is second only to the red-hot 4-0 Gilroy in amount of points allowed this season.
