I am writing to address an issue concerning the Democratic
presidential debates, which I have yet to hear anyone else even
mention.
In three out of the four debates I’ve watched, Carol Moseley
Braun has received very little opportunity to speak. The vast
majority of questions were directed only to the male candidates.
Maybe people think it’s a waste of time to let her speak because
this country isn’t ready for a woman president or she wouldn’t be
as effective because she is a woman.

I don’t feel either is true. If a woman can serve in the military, be a senator, a prime minister and a security advisor, then a woman could also be an effective president.
I think it’s very groundbreaking to have a woman running for president for the first time in our nation’s 227 year history. And it’s something that deserves more attention and media coverage.
People aren’t going to know if Ms. Braun would make an effective president if she doesn’t get equal opportunity to speak. If she is given equal opportunity to speak, we might find out she has something valuable to say.
