Hollister High’s Sara Tiffany shot a wonderful last round when she carded an 89 at Tuesday’s Central Coast Section girls golf tournament at Rancho Canada East.
The senior Tiffany caught the eye of the coach from UC Santa Cruz.
“They’ve started a new golf program,” said Tiffany, who made the All-Tri-County Athletic League First Team. “I haven’t applied there, but I’m going to. I could have played better today.”
The Balers had to be proud with their team total of 402, which tied them for sixth place in the eight-team field.
“We did a good job just making it to CCS,” said Tiffany. “We had a good season.”
“We did better than we did last year when we finished seventh,” said Balers coach Mark Tinder, whose Balers finished 26-8 on the season. “We built a foundation for next year, too.”
Hillary Williams, an honorable mention All-TCAL, shot a 95, a nice score for a junior. She started out a house-afire with a 43 on the front nine. She parred the No. 15.
“I played super good on the front nine,” said Williams. “I struggled on the back nine. There were a lot of trees. It was a hard course.”
The other two Balers whose scores counted were sophomore Corryn Pacheco (107) and sophomore Ashly Cullumber (111). Sophomore Johni Kiesewetter had a 112, while senior Kelly Larson scored a 119.
The team champ was Menlo-Atherton at 369. Monte Vista Christian, which won the TCAL, was fourth at 389.
Medalist was Grace Hsu of Saratoga (72), which was even par.
