Air Force Tech. Sgt. Robert J. Merrill of Hollister has
graduated from the Air Force Noncommissioned Officer Academy at
Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo, Texas.
Air Force Tech. Sgt. Robert J. Merrill has graduated from the Air Force Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo, Texas.

Merrill, a 1987 graduate of San Benito High School, is the son of Robert H. Merrill of Hollister and the grandson of Dorothy Merrill of Hollister. He is a C-130 instructor/flight engineer assigned to the 136th Airlift Wing at Carswell Air Reserve Base, Fort Worth, Texas.

For almost six weeks, Merrill received training in professional military education that prepares noncommissioned officers for positions of increased responsibility by broadening their leadership and supervisory skills, and expanding their perspective of the military profession to be better supervisors and mentors.

His training included instruction in advanced military leadership management theories and responsibilities, and the profession of arms; oral, written, and speaking communication skills, and physical fitness training.

The sergeants are trained to perform supervisory duties to learn behavior concepts, problem solving, and counseling techniques relative to the Air Force mission and organization.

Bryan M. Rodriguez has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program and has reported for basic training at Ft. Knox, Ky.

Rodriguez, a 2001 graduate of San Benito High School, is the son of Azeneth Salvas of Hollister.

The Delayed Entry Program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year.

Enlisting gives the Rodriguez the option to learn a new skill, travel and become eligible to receive as much as $50,000 toward a college education. After completion of basic military training, he will receive advanced individual training in his career job specialty prior to being assigned to his first permanent duty station.
