Three Anzar High boys cross country runners and one Hawk girl advanced to the Central Coast Section Division V meet, which will be held Nov. 16.
Sarah Wisoksi, just a freshman, ran 23:44 to finish 21st on the 3.1-mile Toro Park course, site of Thursday’s Mission Trail Athletic League meet.
The Anzar boys will be represented by senior Remigio Mireles, who was 19th at 18:44, freshman Cisco Heath, 23rd at 19:00, and sophomore Caleb Ellison, 25th at 19:11.
“Remigio really committed to making it,” said Hawk coach Michael Gunderson. “He really wanted it. Sarah ran great.”
Teryn Stone, who was the Hawks No. 1 runner, never recovered from a knee injury and did not race.
The Hawks missed out on a team invitation when they were nosed out by York.
“I’m still hoping for an at-large berth,” said Gunderson. “Our times were close.”
Mizzy Yoes, another Anzar freshman, was 31st at 24:30 while freshman Erica Frazeur was 34th at 24:39. Elsa Vallejo was 40th at 26:06 for the Hawks.
Carmel won both the boys and girls varsity divisions, outpointing a strong King City contingent 22-21 in the boys league standings. The Padres also edged the Mustangs by a point in the girls, 26-25.
Oscar Martinez of Greenfield won the varsity boys race in 16:20 while Elena Ebrahimian of Santa Catalina captured the varsity girls division in a time of 21:25.
