With possible thunderstorms on the way, there is a chance for lighting strikes in the Hollister area, according to the National Weather Service.
With an upper level low-pressure system off the coast, it could move into the area tonight and into Tuesday, bringing the potential for lighting to the region, said Steve Anderson, forecaster with the National Weather Service office in Monterey.
The region with potential to experience lighting includes eastern parts of San Benito County and north into the Bay Area, Anderson said.
It’s unclear how much rain or lighting might hit the area, but the main threat is the possible lighting with thunderstorms, he said.
He said the system is caused by “increased instability” in the atmosphere with moisture heading to this area from the south and southwest.
Rain in August is “a little unusual, but not unheard of,” Anderson said.
