Fracking ban proposal in San Benito County

San Juan Bautista council members voted 3-2 to endorse the Measure J initiative on the Nov. 4 ballot.
Council members voted on a resolution regarding the measure after speakers on both sides talked during a lengthy San Juan council meeting Tuesday night. Measure J aims to ban enhanced extraction practices used by the oil industry – such as fracking, cyclic steaming and well acidizing – along with all petroleum activities in rural residential zones surrounding the two cities.
Council members Tony Boch, Jolene Cosio and Rick Edge voted in favor of the resolution to support Measure J. Mayor Andy Moore and Councilman Robert Lund voted against the resolution.
