Just 21 votes separated incumbent Supervisor Jerry Muenzer and challenger Victor Gomez, a Hollister councilman, after the elections office finished counting all of the local ballots.
The results available now show Muenzer unofficially beating Gomez with 1,805 votes to 1,784 – a difference of 50.19 percent to 49.61 percent. Those figures are among the final tallies, while the elections office is going through the “technical” steps in the aftermath before an official certification Dec. 2 by the county board.
The Muenzer-Gomez contest was among the tightest races on the Nov. 4 ballot. The elections office finished its count this week. Turnout finished at 57.88 percent, with a total of 14,035 voters casting ballots.
In other close races, Robert Frusetta in the unofficial count edged out Anthony Holiday by a tally of 49-47 for a seat on the Tres Pinos Water Board.
As for the most prominent race on the ballot, the Measure J petroleum initiative, the yes side won with 8,034 votes to 5,605 for the no side, an advantage of 58.9 percent to 41.1 percent.
Assistant Clerk-Recorder-Registrar Angela Curro when interviewed Friday had a goal of finishing the canvass by Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
