Hollister City Council members Monday are set to consider spending $4,000 toward painting of utility boxes in an effort to stem graffiti.
The city would add to $500 offered by the San Benito Arts Council, which would sponsor the project. That project would involve artists painting the five utility boxes. The Hollister Parks Department has agreed to maintain them after completion.
The historical portrayals related to Hollister would include Ballet Folklorico and Agriculture, the Biker Blessing, the Downtown Farmers Market, Western/Rodeo and “La Bamba’ the movie, according to the council agenda.
The agenda points to graffiti problems on public and private property. Organizers behind the effort looked at what other communities have done to curtail the problem.
The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth St.
