Gavilan College President Steve Kinsella.

The Gavilan College Board of Trustees on Tuesday will consider appointing a short-term replacement for President Steve Kinsella, who will be taking about a one-month medical leave starting at the end of this month, according to Gavilan staff.

The pending appointment is listed on the board’s agenda for a closed meeting Tuesday, under the title “interim president.”

Kinsella will be out of commission for about a month for back surgery, starting later this month, according to Gavilan College spokeswoman Jan Bernstein-Chargin.

“He’s hoping to be back by the end of April,” Bernstein-Chargin.

Kinsella is scheduled to be out March 25 to April 24. His replacement would be Dr. Victor Krimsley at an anticipated cost of $20,000, according to the agenda packet.

The agenda noted that Gavilan is functioning with one vacant vice president, while the replacement at president would not receive health or other benefits.
