Theater camp

Kid’s Rule Theatre Camp, sponsored by San Benito Stage Company, announces its 11th summer of Drama Camp scheduled for June 24-28 (Monday through Friday) Day Camp (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) It is for boys and girls ages 6-13 and includes workshops in ensemble music, dance movement, acting, improv, pantomine, small group vocal and much more. Wag N Walk set for June 22

HOLLISTER – Pet Friends’ Fifth Annual Wag ’n Walk is June 22, at the Southside Sand and Gravel Plant, 5632 Airline Hwy., in Hollister, at 8:30 a.m. Residents can register online at www.active.com through June 20, with same-day registration available from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. the day of the event. Admission is $45 for a family of four or $20 for individuals through June 8. After June 8, admission is $50 for a family of four or $25 for individuals. Pets are free. Gallery seeks summer intern

HOLLISTER – The San Benito County Arts Council is seeking an intern to serve as a gallery assistant this summer, with a required commitment of 10 hours per week. The objective of the internship program is to offer practical training in nonprofit arts administration and gallery management to those interested in pursuing a career in the arts. The internship offers experience in exhibition management, design and installation, marketing, media and public relations and more. Book signing at Mars Hill

Join local authors, Charisse Tyson (Miracles and Grace in an Unlikely Place), Leta Rea Pereira (The Message Maker), and Maria Lynn Thomas (To Set a Prisoner Free) for a book signing and social gathering featuring readings and a Q&A session, followed by autographing of their books. It is set for 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 31, a Friday, at Mars Hill Coffee House. Authors are donating 10 percent of the proceeds to Mars Hill.

SJB Historical Society meeting

SAN JUAN – The San Juan Bautista Historical Society will host a meeting June 1, at Dona Esther’s Restaurant, at 11:30 a.m. The afternoon will include an annual meeting and a program with speaker Carmen Ruelas Von Tickner. Von Tickner who will share a book written by her sister Josephine Ruelas and published posthumously about her life growing up in the 1920s and into her senior years.

VFW seeks volunteers for events

HOLLISTER – The VFW Post 9242 is requesting volunteers to help with a Memorial Day event on May 27 and with the upcoming Hollister Motorcycle Rally, from July 3-7. On Memorial Day, volunteers will gather in San Juan Bautista at the Leslie L. Garrett Post 6359 at 8:30 a.m., with additional ceremonies planned at the IOOF Cemetery, the Calvary Cemetery and the Veterans Memorial Building in Hollister. During the biker rally, the VFW members will partner with the American Legion Post 69 to work at the Veterans Memorial Building in exchange for a percentage of the proceeds from the rally. They will also be selling food in the annex as a fundraiser. Strengthening special families parent training

HOLLISTER – The San Benito County Office of Education Special Education Department and Easter Seals Central California are hosting training sessions every Wednesday in May, from 6 to 8 p.m., at 1011 Line St., Room 11. On May 29 there will be a family-fun event. Funding for the program is provided by the Community Foundation for San Benito County and First 5 San Benito County. Childcare is available.

Buddhist lecture by Jakob Sintschnig; meditation free

HOLLISTER – Diamond Way Buddhist Center Hollister will present a Buddhist lecture by Jakob Sintschnig, “Buddhist World View and Mediation Practic,” June 6, at 7:30 p.m., at 501 Talbot Drive, in Hollister. It is free and open to the public. Sintschnig has been a student of Lama Ole Nydahl since 1989 and has been teaching Buddhism since 2002. A resident of Graz, Austria, he will be visiting Hollister as part of his West Coast tour, with stops in Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas and San Francisco. Docent wanted for Historical Society

HOLLISTER – The Historical Society is looking for a docent to work at the Museum for three hours on Saturdays and three hours on Sunday, except the first weekend of each month. The position requires knowledge of San Benito County history and excellent customer service skills. The applicant will need to learn the Historical Society policies and required paperwork for accessions, use and reproduction of society holdings, including content and location.
