Cattle were getting shade in June in the area where a mountain lion was witnessed.

Brigantino Park is set to reopen Tuesday – but residents might be watching their backs a little closer if they head that way.

After several people witnessed a mountain lion in the park Sunday – it apparently retreated over the nearby hills on the outskirts of Hollister shortly after the sightings – police decided to close the park.

Interim Police Chief Carlos Reynoso spoke about the matter at Monday’s council meeting. He said public works crews had installed signs alerting residents of the mountain lion sighting.

“If all goes as planned, the park will be opened tomorrow for the public, whoever chooses to go there,” Reynoso said Monday night. “We haven’t seen it since yesterday. All the news crews heading over there might’ve scared it away.”

Councilman Victor Gomez added that he’s a “big cat lover.”

“If you do tranquilize it, give me a call,” Gomez said. “I’d love to go over there and pet him.”
