In his first showing at the CIF State Track and Field Championships over the weekend in Clovis, San Benito High junior Christopher Cook was eliminated after day one qualifying in the long jump.

Cook took 18th place in the qualifying, missing a berth in Saturday’s finals by six spots and six and half inches.

On his first jump, Cook grabbed his best distance of 22-02.5. In his next two jumps, Cook couldn’t quite get the same distance, finishing at 21-01 and 20-11.

The last person to qualify was Serra’s Darrell Fuery, who finished at 22-09.25.

On Saturday, Castro Valley’s Nate Moore took the state the title with a leap of 24-11.75.
