Linda Ashford, wife, mother, grandmother, and local business owner, first opened Ashford’s Heirlooms, located at 7547 Monterey Street, Gilroy, in 1993.
“It’s not the same as it was 25 years ago but we’re holding our own,” Ashford said.
The store has been undergoing a remodel and currently seven local vendors operate out of the space. Ashford expects that number to increase once the remodel is complete, hopefully by the end of this year.
“One dealer sells Native American jewelry and it’s all beautifully made turquoise and coral, and sterling silver,” Ashford said, adding that prices start at around $30 for the unique pieces.
Other items range in price from a few dollars up to hundreds. The ever-changing inventory includes an assortment of, handmade ornaments, cake plates, champagne flutes, wine glasses, and table linens. All great gift ideas for the holidays.
Gifts for the kids are also available with the selection of children books, puzzles, and board games on hand. “We don’t do electronics,” Ashford said with a grin, adding she is happy to gift wrap, and shipping is available.
In Ashford’s opinion, antique stores offer shoppers a unique buying experience, one that touches their heart.
“I think there’s a connection between things that have been used and loved and people’s heartstrings,” she said, adding, “The past is also part of the present, and if you don’t recognize it you’re missing something.”
Ashford boasts the store offers a variety of fun and quality items and encourages everyone to come and check them out. Hours of operation are: 11am-5pm, Tuesday through Sunday. For more information call, 408.842.8236, or visit: facebook.com/AshfordsHeirlooms.
