Sylvia Huerta and her husband, Jesse, are teaming up once again to produce their second play.

“My husband was involved in some stage performances,” Huerta said. “He decided he wanted to produce, and got me interested in the idea of producing plays.”

After having co-produced “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” at San Benito High School over the summer, they are now the producers of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” with the San Benito Stage Company, she said.

The play is “Gilligan’s Island meets Hamlet,” Jesse said.

“It’s a musical comedy that takes place in the Roman era about a slave, Pseudolus, that talks his way out of certain situations,” he said.

The play will be part of a night of dinner theater, with a different main course served each weekend. During intermission the cast members in costume will serve dessert to the audience, Huerta said

“Only $15 goes to the San Benito Stage Company,” Huerta said of the $40 admission price. “The rest goes towards Ridgemark for dinner.”

The money that goes to the company pays for the rights to use the play, postage and for set building supplies, Huerta said.

The play uses the same scene throughout. The San Benito Stage Company has been working on the set for several weeks and moved it into the Ridgemark Golf and Country club Feb. 18, she said.

It’s a fun play and great for family members of all ages, Huerta said.

“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” performed by the San Benito Stage Co. at Ridgemark Golf and Country Club, 3800 Airline Hwy. Tickets are $40.

Shows are Fridays and Saturdays starting March 2 through March 24. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Curtain rises at 7 p.m. Matinee performances are Sunday, March 4 and 18. Doors open at 12:30 p.m.; curtain rises at 1 p.m.
