Two Fresno children, 5 and 3 years old, were severely injured in a head-on accident on Highway 152 that sent a total of four people to San Jose area hospitals Friday.

The 3-year-old boy, whose name was not released, was flown to San Jose Medical Center where he is being treated for a major head injury and injuries to his body. The youth’s 5-year-old brother, whose name was also not released, was flown to San Jose Medical Center where he is being treated for a broken femur and a major head injury, the California Highway Patrol said.

The boys’ mother, Madhu Sameer, 41, of Fresno was flown to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where she is being treated for injuries to her body and cuts to legs, the CHP said.

The youths and their mother were injured in a 9:20 a.m. accident on Highway 152 just east of Bloomfield Road when Sameer was westbound on Pacheco Pass Highway in a 1999 Honda Accord.

Sameer, who was reportedly traveling behind a big-rig, crossed the center double yellow lines and entered the eastbound lane in an attempt to pass the big rig, the CHP said.

As Sameer passed the truck, she did not see a 2001 Ford Mustang driven by Peter Daniels, 61, of Santa Clara in the eastbound lane. Daniels did not see Sameer’s Accord headed toward him until it was too late to avoid the collision as both cars struck head-on.

Daniels was flown to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where he is being treated for a broken leg, cuts and bruises, the CHP said.
