Allen clocks 18:57 at Clovis Invitational

Courtney Allen’s strong showing at the Clovis Invitational last Saturday led the San Benito Lady ‘Balers cross country team to a fourth-place finish among Central Coast Section teams, and 66th overall among the 115 teams present.

Allen’s 18:57 was fourth overall in her division and 52nd overall among the nearly 1,200 runners listed at the massive meet.

Fellow CCS team Mountain View finished second overall.

Ana Rosa Duarte finished in 21:04 and was 65th in her race. Dayna Casillas followed with a 21:05 and was 67th, while Grace Tobias came in shortly after at 21:11, good enough for 75th.

Rachel Shimabukuro clocked 22:06 and finished 114th in her division, and Kristina Vasquez’ 23:44 placed her 138th. Vanessa Farias recorded a 24:36 and finished 142nd.

The ‘Baler boys, led by Jose Castillo, finished sixth among CCS teams at Clovis, and were 65th overall among the 134 teams competing.

Castillo’s 16:42 placed him sixth in his division, 19th among other harriers in the section and 237th overall out of the 1,573 runners who recorded times.

Teammate Frankie Rivera was second on San Benito at 16:50 and 42nd in his division. Eddie Guzman’s 17:03 was good enough for 23rd in his race and 385th overall, while Adrian Rodriguez (17:22) and Jorge Aguilar (17:25) finished in similar times, although placed 92nd and 37th overall in their respective divisions.

Omar Vasquez at 17:54 was 80th in his division, and Justin Rendon (18:29), Sergio Alcala (18:54), Victor Esqueda (18:55), Tino Granados (18:56) and David Kret (19:13) also competed for San Benito.

The ‘Balers will compete today, Tuesday, at Natividad Park in Salinas at 3:30 p.m., against Palma, Notre Dame and Everett Alvarez.
