It’s that time of year. The music is back, the commercials have started and stores are gearing up for the holiday rush.
While San Benito County residents mull holiday plans and dread upcoming credit card bills, San Benito County’s 12 Days of Giving, Dec. 1-12, gives residents and businesses opportunities to make Christmas brighter for local San Benito County non-profits.
In 2010, 12 Days of Giving was founded by the Community Foundation for San Benito County and the United Way. In eight years, the 12 Days of Giving has raised $474,919 for local non-profits such as Chamberlain’s Children Center, Community Food Bank, CASA, Emmaus House and Sun Street Centers.
Beginning Dec. 1, the five participating non-profit organizations reach out into the community in search of donations, whether from individuals or large contributions from a business. After Dec. 12, the organizations report their donations to 12 Days of Giving, which will determine how much money will be matched by sponsors, effectively doubling the selected donations.
“These are much-needed funds that allow these organization to serve San Benito County residents better,” a 12 Days of Christmas press release read. “Whether it is ensuring a brighter holiday season for the children and families or bridging the winter food gap, 12 Days of Giving makes a real difference.”
