The Anzar boys basketball team lost a close match at Cyprus Grove on Tuesday, 56-49.

The two teams will play again tonight at Anzar. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. Anzar (1-2) got within two points late in the game but was forced to purposely foul.

The score was 32-18 at the half before Anzar started pressuring and forcing turnovers.

“We had a lot better performance tonight than we did against North Valley,” said coach Ed Cecena. “In the second quarter, we attacked the zone and our press created a lot of turnovers. We have a real young group, and we finally are starting to realize where the intensity level needs to be at.”

Nelson Hardy came off the bench in the second half and led the Hawks in scoring with five 3-pointers for 15 points.

Sam Stewart had nine points and both Aaron Panero and Brent Ramos had six points for the Hawks.
