The Hollister City Council has adopted the Hollister Urban Area Water and Wastewater Master Plan that will help govern water issues through 2023.

The plan was developed by the city, San Benito County, San Benito County Water District and recently also the Sunnyslope Water District, said Mayor Doug Emerson.

The plan, which will govern water and wastewater issues, was written in response to the requirements of the regional water quality control board.

San Benito County has trouble with water sources, including drought and smelt issues, which the plan will help solve, officials say. It will help to investigate possible solutions for water sources, including finding different streams, drilling more wells or pumping water back into the ground for later use, said Emerson. The plan also helps make treated water more marketable for agricultural uses.
