contributions to local schools.

The annual awards event recognized principals, vice principals, superintendents and other school officials in San Benito, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties for their hard work and dedication.

Local administrators Peter Gutierrez from the Hollister School District office, Don Knapp from Rancho San Justo and Delia Gomez from Gabilan Hills were honored. The Free Lance was also honored at the event for its education coverage.

Gutierrez was given the Leadership Matters Award for his work as the assistant superintendent and director of human resources for the Hollister School District. “Leadership Matters” is a theme of the association which reflects a belief held by its members.

“(We) believe that leadership really matters to make public education better. (The award) is given to a leader in the true spirit of leadership through the years,” said ACSA President of Region 10 Alejandro Hogan.

Rancho San Justo Principal Don Knapp won for Middle Grades Principal and Gabilan Hills Vice Principal Delia Gomez won for Elementary Co-Administrator of the Year for their region.

Free Lance education reporters Danielle Smith and Alice Joy were given the award for Outstanding Media of Public Education.

“We’re very proud of all the winners,” Hogan said.
