Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man for allegedly stabbing a private security guard several times Sunday at a Santa Cruz Indian Council festival at Casa De Fruta’s campgrounds over the Memorial Day weekend.
Rising Sun-Sebeses Sylester, 21, of Elk Grove was arrested Tuesday for the stabbing and is being charged with attempted murder, sheriff’s officials said.
The guard was taken by ambulance to St. Louise Regional Hospital before being airlifted to San Jose Medical Center where he was treated for his wounds, according to sheriff’s spokesperson Terrance Helm. He has since been released from the hospital.
According to Helm, Sylester and others were spotted by a security guard at 1:45 a.m. Sunday drinking alcohol in a nearby creek. The security guard asked the men to hand over the bottle because drinking was not allowed at the event, and after a brief exchange a man from the group tackled the security guard. A fight ensued, and the guard was stabbed at least seven times in the chest, abdomen and legs.
Another suspect then began kicking the security guard in the face when fellow guards heard his calls for help and responded to the scene. All the suspects then fled on foot.
