Behind 19 points from senior Jordan Belton, the San Benito boys basketball team started the league season with a dominant 53-38 victory over North Salinas on Wednesday.
With the win, San Benito is now 10-3 in the season.
San Benito took control of the game in the early moments, running away with a 10-point halftime lead.
Jacob Tonascia added 9 points and Isaiah Acfalle added 8 points in the victory.
San Benito continues the league season Friday at Gilroy High. The game is expected to begin at 7 p.m. The Balers beat Gilroy 52-37 in the final game of the Bob Hagen Memorial Tournament on Dec. 17.
Girls Basketball
With Tuesday’s 46-31 loss to North Salinas in the league opener, the girls basketball team has lost four the last five games. The loss moves the Balers’ record to 7-6.
San Benito struggled in the second and final quarters, allowing 19 points in each frame. In the final quarter, San Benito struggled from the floor, scoring 2 points.
San Benito hosts Gilroy High at 7 p.m. Thursday.
