Brian Alan VanVranken was in fair condition at midday Monday at San Jose Medical Center, where an air ambulance flew him after his solo motorcycle wreck.

VanVranken was thrown from his 2004 Harley-Davidson Sportster when it hit the rail, and he landed in the center median of 101, the CHP reported.

The crash happened at about 9 a.m., north of the exit for state Highway 156.
