Editor,

Regarding Elizabeth Gage’s column “Ruthless Nerd or Technology Wizard?,” since I moved back to Hollister in 1988, I’ve heard how Bill Gates should spend his money. Bill Gates doesn’t believe in God, yet a couple of times there have been Christians telling him how to spend it.

The one I like the most is the TV commentator in his mid 70’s who asked why Bill Gates was spending $300- $400 million on Third World countries to stop the spread of HIV. They are wretched people and can never improve their living conditions. The money should be spent to cure cancer in the U.S.

In your mid 70’s, only an American would say this. One president did not want to take the time to hear about it. If you were one of those wretched people in India or Africa, Bill Gates is a God.
