Video: ‘Materiality’ art show features a diverse mix of work

A new show at the Blak Sage Gallery features the work of 11 artists in a variety of materials. Listen to comments on the show from Jennifer Laine, the executive director of the San Benito Arts Council, while two artists show off their studio space.

Top 5: Church rededication, art exhibit up and more

St. Luke’s celebrates 110 years: The sanctuary at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will be rededicated Jan. 25 at part of a 110 year anniversary at the local church. The Rt. Rev. Mary Gray-Reeves, the bishop of the Diocese of El Camino Real, will rededicate the sanctuary, which has recently been refurbished. The festivities will include an open house at 5:30 p.m. and a candlelight labyrinth walk, the 7 p.m. festal eucharist and rededication with incense used, and a dessert reception to follow at 8:30 p.m. Clergy are invited to vest and process. Briefs: Grant meeting for local artists

The Creative Work Fund will host an informational seminar at Blak Sage Gallery, Jan. 24, from 6:30 -7:30 p.m., on its grant application process. Letters of inquiry will be due March 1, with up to $650,000 available with grants ranging from $10,000 to $40,000.

Latest Blak Sage show features a mix of mediums

The latest show at the Blak Sage Gallery – “Materiality: Interpretations in Wood, Metal, Glass & Clay” – opens Friday, with work from 12 local and regional artists on display. The show runs through March 1, with an artists’ reception on Feb. 1 to coincide with the First Friday gathering.

Artists' reception at Blak Sage: The San Benito Arts Council and sponsors will host an artists' reception Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Blak Sage Gallery, 727 San Benito St. The show on display, "Women Artists of San Benito County" runs through runs through Nov. 30 and features the works of nine local artists. The reception will feature free food, music and drinks. The gallery is open Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 1p.m., Fridays, from 1 to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m.

Civil War Days: The San Benito County Historical Park will host Civil War Days Sept. 15 and 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with re-enactors filling the historical roles of townspeople and soldiers from the era. The annual event will feature battle scenes and a chance to walk around the Historical Village to see what life was like during the period. Admission is $10. 1.) Antique Fair: The Rotary Club of San Juan Bautista will host its 49th Annual Antique and Collectibles Fair Aug. 12, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., in San Juan. An appraiser will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event this year will include an increase in vendors and food booths. All proceeds go to the club’s community grants program, emergency fund for local families, leadership opportunities for high school students and the donation of dictionaries to all third-grade children in the Aromas-San Juan Unified School District.
