Gavilan College board Tuesday voted to change the ASB name to Associated Students of Gavilan College (ASGC), a name that the majority of students chose in a survey in the fall of 2014.

The Nov. 4 Election Day brought a wave of new and familiar faces to school boards across San Benito County. Of the 17 school races in the county, eight garnered enough qualified candidates to appear on the ballot for a deciding vote. 

Gavilan College Board Trustee Walter R. “Walt” Glines is running unopposed representing the Gilroy area for the November 2014 election.

Gavilan College trustees voted in closed session last month to change the way trustees are voted into office, confirmed Trustee Tony Ruiz, who represents the Hollister area on the board.

Some part-time teachers at Gavilan College are outraged that their hourly pay—and often their courses—are being cut while top administrators receive bonuses and increasing salaries.

State auditor Elaine Howle slammed the accreditation commission responsible for the controversial shutdown of City College of San Francisco. She said the commission—on which Gavilan College President Steve Kinsella serves as vice president—lacks transparency and consistency.

Modesto was able to take one set from Gavilan, but that's all it would get.

Gavilan is still perfect.

The Gavilan volleyball team has started off it's conference season on the right foot.

Bringing issues of violence against women and children to the forefront, a leading South County social services agency – Community Solutions – will open the curtains Nov. 2 on its seventh annual play entitled, “Historias de Mi Madre VII: El Puente.”
